This document is a report delivered under Work Package 8. The objectives of this document are:
- to determine the key determinants of cloud computing adoption decisions for HPC;
- to determine the present and future critical issues and problems facing HPC and the adoption of HPC in the Cloud from a stakeholder perspective.
Based upon the critical issues and problems identified through this research, industry, researchers and policymakers can more accurately design a roadmap and strategy to increase the adoption of HPC in the Cloud. The report is organized as follows. Section 1 provides background on CloudLightning and this task specifically and a brief summary of the methodologies used in this report. The objectives of the document were achieved through a two staged research methodology. The first stage was an empirical survey and the second stage combined a Delphi panel with an open ended survey to examine the issues critical to HPC. Section 2 summarises the findings of the survey on the key determinants of cloud computing adoption for HPC. Sections 3, 4 and 5 summarise end user and expert feedback on critical issues impacting (a) HPC and (b) HPC in the Cloud, in the near term (1-5 years) and long term (5+ years) and potential solutions to these issues. The report concludes with a summary of findings.
