The ambition of the project scope raises several theoretical, technical and operational challenges that will need to be addressed to fully realise these advancements and associated benefits in both public and private HPC cloud environments. In light of this, we have assembled a balanced consortium of academic and industrial partners.

Academic partners have been selected on the basis of their strong theoretical knowledge of the underlying principles and a proven track record in practical industry-led research. Industrial partners were chosen on the basis of their industry leadership positions, R&D expertise in coprocessor architectures and cloud computing technologies. Additionally, the selected industry partners have a demonstrated the ability to consume the outputs from European research projects into their businesses and to provide broad industry influence based on these outputs.

 
The work proposed in CloudLightning represents a ground-breaking advance in how cloud infrastructures can be managed by cloud service providers and delivered to cloud consumers to enable new and innovative services.
